Scriptures about the power in the name of Jesus

Feb 12, 2024

There is power in the name of Jesus, and the powerful Bible verses below testify to that.

John 14:13-14

Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it.

Christians pray in the name of Jesus to approach God the Father. Jesus Himself instructed His disciples to pray in His name, and we believe that our prayers are heard and answered because of Jesus’ authority.

John 16:23-24

“In that day you will ask me no questions. Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.”

Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Power of salvation in Jesus’ name

Christians believe that salvation and forgiveness of sins come through faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, invoking Jesus’s name is a way to access the benefits of salvation and receive God’s grace and mercy.

Acts 4:12

There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!

Romans 10:13, Joel 2:32

For, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

1 John 5:13

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Proverbs 18:10 (KJV)

The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Why is there power in the name of Jesus?

Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He possesses ultimate authority over all things, including spiritual forces. In the New Testament, Jesus demonstrated authority over demons, sickness, and even death through His name.

Philippians 2:9

Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name.

Mark 16:17

These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages;

Luke 10:17

The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”

When there is power in the name of Jesus?

In the verse below, John emphasizes believers’ confidence in approaching God through prayer. The critical condition is asking according to God’s will. When believers pray in alignment with God’s will, they have the assurance that God hears their prayers and will grant their requests.

To conclude

Psalm 91:14-16

“Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him.
I will set him on high, because he has known my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him.
I will be with him in trouble.
I will deliver him, and honor him.
I will satisfy him with long life,
and show him my salvation.”
